APRETUDE ARRIVES AT LTGR: INJECTABLE MEDICATION FOR HIV/AIDS
Apretude, which is injected every two months, is an alternative to daily HIV prevention pills
We are proud to announce that Love the Golden Rule Inc. has provided our first patient with the newest treatment for Preexposure Prophylaxis, or PreP, against HIV/AIDS. The medication is an injectable medication that will be given with an initial dose, followed by a dose one month later, and then the medication will be given every two months. The medication is known as Cabotregravir and is being marketed under the name of Apretude. It is indicated for adults and adolescents weighing more than 35 kg. This may change the entire landscape for preventing HIV. We know that Florida has the highest rate of new infections in the country, and we need to continue making greater efforts to help prevent HIV. It has been shown to reduce the incidence of HIV infection by 69% in clinical trials. Insurance companies will hopefully cover this product and the Pharmaceutical Companies indicate that Medicaid and Medicare are evaluating the possibility of including Apretude for patients covered within those systems.
