Dr. Robert “Bob” Wallace

Dr. Wallace earned his M.D. from the University of Florida in 1982 and completed his family practice residency at Bayfront Medical Center in 1985. He has practiced medicine in the Tampa Bay area for over 40 years, with a focus on HIV and AIDS care since the early years of his career.

He built a private practice in St. Petersburg from 1985 to 2001, treating HIV and AIDS patients through the period before effective antiretroviral therapy existed. During that time he also served as Vice-Chairman of the Department of Family Medicine at Bayfront Medical Center and as a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of South Florida College of Medicine.

From 2001 to 2007, he worked as Medical Director and Medical Scientist at Gilead Sciences, contributing to the development of HIV treatment that is still in use today. He has led or participated in more than a dozen HIV clinical trials over the course of his career, and has lectured on HIV and AIDS medicine nationally and internationally.

He is a founding board member and former Secretary of the American Academy of HIV Medicine, and helped organize the Florida Academy of HIV Medicine in 2000. He holds certification as an HIV Medicine Specialist through the American Academy of HIV Medicine.

In 2013, he founded Love The Golden Rule on a straightforward principle: the quality of a patient's care shouldn't depend on the quality of their insurance. The clinic opened its doors in 2014. Since then, it has treated and cured over 3,000 patients of Hepatitis C, working directly with pharmaceutical programs to provide medication at no cost to uninsured patients.

Dr. Wallace is a longtime advocate for LGBTQ+ rights and community health equity in the Tampa Bay area. In 2024, he received Equality Florida's Voice for Equality Award, and he serves on the Board of Directors of Boley Centers, supporting housing initiatives for individuals experiencing homelessness, including homeless veterans. He continues to serve as LTGR's Founding Physician.
