Doxy PEP

Doxycycline is an antibiotic used as part of the treatment for gonorrhea and is an alternate treatment for patients with syphilis who are allergic to penicillin. In the MSM population, we are seeing a number of people who are now using Doxycycline as Postexposure Prophylaxis. They take 200 mg a Doxycycline within 72 hours after having sex. In a study performed between January, 2021 and July, 2022, there were 502 patients analyzed taking DOXY-Pep versus those who did not. The incidence of the first episode of gonorrhea was 20.5 and 41.3 per 100 patient years in the DOXY-PeP arms and the non-PeP and arms, respectively. The incidence of chlamydia or syphilis was 5.6 and 35.4 per hundred patient years in the DOXY-PeP and non-Pep arms, respectively. In a similar study and women. It was not as successful. There is a significant reduction in syphilis and gonorrhea for people who use this form of Postexposure Prophylaxis.
