At Love The Golden Rule, our mission has always been to provide inclusive and compassionate care for everyone who walks through our doors. In alignment with this mission, we are proud to announce the House of Love Fund, a new initiative under the passionate leadership of Té Monet, Miss Trans Florida 2024. The fund, housed by Love The Golden Rule, is dedicated to addressing the urgent needs of Florida’s transgender community. Our goal is to raise $10,000 by November 5, 2024, to ensure that every transgender individual in our care has access to the essential healthcare and resources they deserve.
The idea for the House of Love Fund emerged from the experiences of our transgender patients. Our founder, Dr. Robert Wallace, recognized the significant challenges they face—not just in accessing healthcare, but also in securing basic necessities like housing and employment. This fund is our way of responding to those needs, but under Té Monet’s visionary leadership, it is also much more.
“The idea of having the House of Love fund is as a result of what we’re seeing with our transgender community patients,” Dr. Wallace explained. “Many of them are struggling for housing and work, and we want to make sure that this fund will pay for office visits and laboratory work that is greatly needed. We see this as a jumpstart on being able to offer even more services.”
As a clinic that prides itself on providing a safe and welcoming environment, we understand the critical importance of consistent, reliable care for transgender individuals, particularly in today’s challenging social and political climate. While some of the most restrictive laws have been rolled back, the fear and uncertainty they created still linger.
“Patients are beginning to feel a little bit more comfortable, but are very timid and shy because they are afraid this could turn around and come back again,” Dr. Wallace noted. This is why the House of Love Fund, under Té Monet’s leadership, is so vital—it’s about providing security and consistency in a world that often feels anything but stable.
Té Monet has not only embraced the leadership role of this fund but has also become its most passionaTéadvocate. Her own experiences with accessing transgender-specific healthcare have driven her commitment to creating a safe and supportive space for others.
“When I was approached by Dr. Bob and Love The Golden Rule clinic to become one of their patients, I immediately wanted to do that for others,” Té Monet shared. “I wanted to create a space where others can seek the healthcare they need in an environment that is safe, with physicians and nurses who understand their journey. I hope that the impact on the community will be to feel safer and have a path to a better, healthier trans life.”
To kick off the fundraising efforts, we are excited to host a special event, Tea with Té Monet, at The Wet Spot in St. Petersburg on August 25, 2024, from 4 PM to 6 PM. This event will be an opportunity for the community to come together, enjoy a delightful afternoon, and learn more about the House of Love Fund directly from Té Monet herself. Attendees will have the chance to hear Té Monet’s inspiring story, engage in meaningful discussions, and show their support for this critical initiative. We invite everyone to join us for an afternoon of empowerment, connection, and purpose.
Té Monet’s leadership is especially crucial given the broader impact of recent legislative changes in Florida, which have only increased the urgency for initiatives like the House of Love Fund.
“This legislation was so broad, it wasn’t a narrow attack on the community—it was a broad attack on many of us. Mental health-wise, it doesn’t put you in a good place. Instead of focusing on promotions at work or spending time with family, we’re fighting for the right to make medical decisions about our own private decisions. The House of Love Fund is our way to fight back, but also to get what we need,” said Té Monet.
At Love The Golden Rule, we know that the stakes are high. The House of Love Fund isn’t just about financial assistance—it’s a beacon of hope and resilience for a community that’s under siege, guided by the leadership of Té Monet. Our goal of raising $10,000 by November 5, 2024, is ambitious, but with the support of our community, we believe we can make it happen.
This initiative is not just about meeting immediate needs; it’s about creating a sustainable, compassionate, and supportive healthcare environment where transgender individuals can thrive. Every donation, no matter the size, brings us one step closer to our $10,000 goal—a goal that will make a real difference in the lives of countless transgender people in Florida.
