Everything moves so fast these days

Hello Friends, Everyone seems to be in a hurry today. It’s hard to keep up. I was happy to see that the Pope reminded all of us about the golden rule. This is something I’ve been doing now for 2 1/2 years. We must do something to help our children understand respect and be able to teach them to treat each other the way they would want to be treated themselves. I want to say a special thank you to Dr. Bruce Day and his wife Cheryl. Dr. Day trained at Bayfront Medical Center a few years ahead of me. He was in practice for many years here in St. Petersburg. We are very grateful that as he closed office, he was willing to give us his medical supplies, his furniture, his exam tables, his printers, and even the pictures hanging on the wall. This has made Love the Golden Rule Inc. look so nice and is helping to complete so much of what was needed. We are continuing to move forward with the renovation of the four apartments upstairs. We have our plans approved by the city. We are working with contractors to see who will be the best to finish the project for us. We also have the […] readmore

Equality

What a wonderful week. We had the great opportunity to share in the 50th Birthday party of Nadine Smith. What a wonderful, powerful, loving and effective woman. As the leader of Equality Florida, she has given so much of herself, and has changed the lives of so many of us who needed that change. She continues to fight for the rights of the LGBT community in a way that no one else can. Having watched her evolve into the position she is in today, I am grateful for her and take every opportunity I can to listen to her speak. She is a great example of the Golden Rule. Caring for others and making sure that all are treated equally and with respect. The mission statement of Love the Golden Rule is evolving too. Now that we have the clinic open, and I am beginning to see my dreams come true, I feel even more motivation to work harder and remain optimistic about the whole project. Keep looking for the new programs to become a reality. The Obesity program I call “Better My Image” will continue to evolve. The dream of the teaching Kitchen, class rooms and vertical gardens will become a reality within the next year if we just […] readmore

Equal and Proud

In the last few weeks there have been so many events that should allow all of us as Americans to stand up, be proud, and shout out that “We all have a right to be treated as equal”. Love the Golden Rule has been saying that since it’s founding in April of 2013. We should all learn that one way we can improve our world is to treat each other the way you want to be treated yourself. I do it in every line I am standing in. I ask people “How is your day going?” or “You have a great smile, thank you for making my day brighter.” If you just try this, you will see that I am right. Your life will be filled with positive responses and new rewards. Just using the words “please” and “thank you” will almost always get you a smile in return. No, this doesn’t happen all the time, but it should. In the Clinic at 721, we have been ramping up to see more patients. We are now a Medicare and Medicaid Provider Clinic, and have 2 Medicaid plans that will be sending people to us. One is Simply Health, and that will allow me to get back to my roots in […] readmore

Neighbors

Good evening Friends. I trust that all of you had some time to relax on this Holiday weekend, and enjoy the paradise we have here in Florida. JoJo and I had a great weekend. There was time for work, play and sharing. Last weekend, on Sunday, a young man was shot and killed by the police here in my neighborhood. I did not know the family or the young man who died. It was sad to see the media sitting outside of the house 2 days later, as if they were in a Deer tent, waiting for the next victim to come forward. I went to them and asked them how would they feel if it was their family member who had been killed, and someone was sitting in cars with cameras outside their houses, waiting for “a story”Just so they could race in and catch something from a family member or a friend who might have stopped by. It is tragic, but that is what people want to see on the news.I know the reporters personally. They were just doing the job they had been told to do. I could tell they shared my feelings. Since I didn’t know the family before the tragedy, I didn’t feel it appropriate […] readmore

May 19th 2015 National Hepatitis Testing Day

Hello friends, I want to say a very special Thank You to Linda Hurtado, Matt McGlashin and the ABC Action News team for their support this week. It is so nice to get the chance to meet our local news celebrities, and find out that they are even more beautiful in person. You can feel the compassion and interest in what they do. I was really touched by them and the way they interviewed one our many wonderful women that I see at Love the Golden Rule Inc. everyday. The faces of Hepatitis C have changed so much over the last few years, and many Doctors and Nurses still have an opinion that leaves patients with Hepatitis C are “drug users”. What they are missing is that many are FORMER drug users, and so many have paid the price, done the time, and made tremendous efforts to get their lives back in order. All they need is some encouragement and a caring hand. It is amazing to see just how much that will do. I for one have learned so much from all of our patients, and can’t wait to get to my office to meet new people every day. It is concerning though, that the most common story I […] readmore

Happy Mother’s Day

There is nothing more special than a Mother’s love. My Mother has been gone for 7 years now. She had Alzheimer’s Disease and really struggled at the end. She never lost her smile and she loved everyone. In fact, the home where she was living would get he dressed each morning, have her hair combed, and then let her sit near the front door so that anyone entering would be greeted with her smile. Even though she didn’t know you, she would still smile and say Hello. She had a stroke about a year before her passing. It left her unable to talk in sentences, but just the few words she could get out would let you know what she needed or wanted, or what you needed to hear. I miss her very much. The gifts our parents give us are seen in the way we live our lives. I was taught to treat others the way I wanted to be treated myself, and that if I helped someone in need that when the time came for me to need help, there would be someone there to help. I am grateful that at this point in my life, I am happier than I have ever been. With thanks to my […] readmore

Learning to Live Life on Life’s Terms

It has been another great week at Love the Golden Rule Inc. We continue to see 5-7 new patients every day and are getting closer to being a Provider in the Medicaid System. We have already been approved as a Medicare Provider and will continue to work on other insurance companies. One thing you can do as patients is to contact your Health Care Company and ask them to add Love the Golden Rule Inc, and Dr Robert J Wallace, MD to their panel, so that you can choose us as your Healthcare Provider. I have been connecting with some of my former patients and look forward to seeing them again as their Doctor. Spread the word. If you have seen me in the past, I may be able to see you now under your Medicaid plan, or any insurance plan you may have. One of the most rewarding things for me, is to see people sitting in front of me, grasping the concept of living life by the Golden Rule. Treat others the way you want to be treated, and then also understanding that as we give our lives to a Higher Power, the world opens up for us and there is a better way to live a healthier […] readmore

AIDS History and Me

Hello friends, “Optimal Management of HIV Disease and Hepatitis” otherwise known as Opman took place in Miami this weekend. This is the 23rd year and I believe I have only missed 2 over that time. It is great to listen to the new data and feel reassured that we at Love the Golden Rule Inc. are doing everything we should be, and more.It always refuels me to get back here and start a new project. Dr Mike Saag, MD stared his training at the University of Alabama, Birmingham just a year before I started my Residency Training here in St. Petersburg in 1982. He has been one of the Co-Chairs of this conference from the beginning. Others have stepped away, but Dr Saag was always the one we knew would be there. With his vast knowledge, and incredible laboratory work, he taught us all that we could handle this disease and make a difference. He is one of my heroes in the world of HIV/AIDS. While he spent time in the laboratory and founded an awesome clinic in Alabama,I was spending my nights at the homes of patients dying from AIDS, frightened that we would not be able to get this under control soon enough. Participating in Clinical Trials myself, gave me […] readmore

The Clinic at 721

Hello friends, Now that we have 300 patients, and are getting people on treatment for Hepatitis C everyday, we get the chance to see people being cured from Hepatitis C and how it is changing their lives. For those of you who know me, my passion has been HIV/AIDS and I am in the process to become a provider in the networks that are covering most of those living with HIV. I am opening up the practice to the general public for those who wish to see me. Love the Golden Rule Inc has just been approved for Medicare, and by the end of next week we will be approved by Medicaid Well Care. If you as patients will please contact your insurance companies and ask them to add me as a provider, we will be able to get you in to see me soon. I am excited to be back practicing Medicine again. I’m still working one day a week at the Health Department, after all I have bills to pay too. MORE EXCITING NEWS ABOUT HEPATITIS C. We just had the company from Miami(Bio-Collections) up here last week, and between my office, Pinellas Hope (tent city),and Safe Harbor we collected blood from 126 patients. We can now begin […] readmore

What a Great Weekend

Hello Friends, This weekend was the Florida Recovery Roundup in Miami. There were 908 people all in one hotel mingling and sharing and caring for each other. I spent time listening to people tell their stories about recovery and reaching their dreams. It really fills your heart with love and gratitude, just like Love the Golden Rule. Helping people reach their dreams, by getting cured of chronic viral diseases, learning to battle addictions, and building self esteem. This week we will be testing over 100 people, gathering information at 2 of the largest homeless shelters, and at the clinic at 721. Once we have the results, we can apply for the patient assistance program and get them on therapy. So far, we have had 5 patients reach the undetectable status, and with a second test in a few months, the will be told that they are cured. This is an awesome feeling, and the stories we are already hearing are heart warming. In the office, Carol is organizing and helping gear up for our 2 fund raising events. On April 18th we will have an Open House, to let everyone see the progress. We may even be under construction at that time. Our theme will be “Change Your Thinking About […] readmore
