Our lives all “matter”

Good Evening my friends, This is been an extremely emotional week for so many. My heart and my prayers go out to the families of all of the victims, including the ones they like to show on the news with four legs. It is hard to watch the news today. It seems that the more confrontation, the more graphic they can be, they feel their ratings increase. What does that say about our society today? My fear, is that were continuing to teach hate to the children of all races. I see separation of populations rather than joining together of populations. In my eyes we are all equal in the eyes of God. This is not a religious organization, but I have a strong spiritual sense about me. Seeing violent protests erupt across the country takes me back to my childhood in the 1950s. I lived in a town that had two black universities just outside our town. It was a small town, Xenia, Ohio. In the 1960s when riots were breaking out in the South. there were many who feared what might happen in our little town. What I’m most proud of, is that we were all taught to love one another and treat each other as you would […] readmore

Gold Medals

Good evening friends, The US Olympic teams have made us all proud. It is great to see what dedication, hard work, and a love for your country can do. Watching these young people compete, easy wondering if I could ever have been an Olympic champion. Spending 4 years undergraduate college, 4 years in medical school, 3 years in a very difficult residency program, and then 34 years caring for patients on a 24 hour a day career, there’ve been many gold medals put in front of me. The push to earn these metals has never been foreign to me and that there’ve been many” gold medals” in my life. In caring for the many patients in our clinic, it is clear that many of them also have worked hard their entire lives, many of them are taken the wrong path, but in their correction have worked long, hard, grueling hours to support themselves and their families. Those people deserve gold medals as well. That’s why at Love the Golden Rule Inc., we focus on those people who are less fortunate and offer them hope by curing a fatal disease, Hepatitis C. The virus does eventually kill you if left untreated and allowed to progress to the point of severe liver […] readmore

What’s Happening to Our Country?

Hello Friends, It’s been a while since I’ve written. There’s been so much going on in this world. It’s hard to turn on the television. Every time I do I see more violence and killing. Love the Golden Rule Inc. was founded in 2013. At that time I went around the country asking people to live by the Golden Rule. Treat others the way you want to be treated yourself. It appears we just aren’t getting that message to our children, and that they are learning to hate others. This is so unsettling. One person can make a difference. Take the opportunity to smile at someone and ask them how their day is going. You might be surprised at the answer you will get and more importantly, the feeling in your heart will be something to enjoy for the whole day. This week in the clinic, it has been so rewarding to see so many people who have made the commitment to their recovery. In one day alone, there was someone who had 140 days sober, another who had 4 months sober, and yet another who had 2 years clean and sober, and is working with others. He is now a leader in NA and AA helping others reach their […] readmore

Serenity and Peace

hello friends The recent events in Orlando and throughout the country have made it clear we have a lot of things to work on. I continue to push for the acceptance of sexual orientation. It is clear that this young man faced a lot of conflict. As we listen more to his father and how he felt about his religion is very clear we have to do more to stop those of religious organizations who are demonizing men and women based on their sexual orientation. Sexual orientation is no more a choice than the color of the skin. This is being shown more as we map the genome of the body. I feel confident it will show up on the X and Y chromosomes and that we will find that these changes on these chromosomes will explain the differences between those who choose the opposite sex and those who choose the same sex. I’ve grown even stronger in my belief that we have to teach the Golden rule to our society. Treat others the way you want to be treated yourself. We must continue to stand up and speak out against those who demonize homosexuals. The result of such actions were shown to us in Orlando this last weekend. This was […] readmore

The Insurance Hassles and Life

Hello Friends, There are 2 people in the hospital this weekend that have been very important to me. The 1st is a man who’s been denied treatment of his hepatitis C because of the positive drug test. The sad part of this is that he is spiraling into liver failure and kidney failure. I have tried repeatedly to get him the medication, however they are demanding that he have 6 months of drug counseling before they provide the medication. I even went to the media, ABC Action News with Carson Chambers. He was also referred to one of the best gastroenterologist in this town, Dr. Glamour. His staff has also been trying to get the medication for him. This is a sad example of how the people in the position to make decisions have no concept of the Golden Rule. The company refused to pay for the medication because it would cost $93,000 for a 12 week treatment, however he may need 24 weeks treatment. Now, the insurance company is going to have to pay for a five-day hospital stay, which I’m sure is much higher than the cost of the drug that could kept him out of the hospital in the 1st place. The insurance company is Wellcare. My opinion […] readmore

The World is spinning too fast

Hello friends, The world seems to be spinning faster every day. As I watch people on their cell phones, and other devices, I wonder how many of them have tripped, run into other people, or actually hurt other people because are not paying attention to what’s in front of their body rather than what they have on their phone. I watch as people drive by and sometimes I start counting how many people are talking on the phone as a drive to the office. It is frightening. There is a lot of great news for us at Love the Golden Rule Inc. we have our new doors in, not only are we now able to see out, but people are able to see in before they walk into her beautiful clinic. With the steady income growing, and donations increasing over the last 3 months, it is possible to add more staff. I hope to reach my dream of having 4 projects within Love the Golden Rule Inc. by the end of the year. First, we are ready to renovate the apartments upstairs. We’ve completed negotiations, we have the plans approved, we have the financing in place, and are excited about getting these apartments up and ready. These apartments will be […] readmore

Thanks for the Graffiti

Hello friends and followers We knew it would happen someday. After hiring artist to do graffiti on our walls someone decided to add their own piece of artwork. It’s actually not bad and it’s in step with our theme and the fact that we will treat anyone as they come into our door, no matter who they are or what they look like. What I’m asking is, that the person who did this to come forward and perhaps help us finish the project that was never completed. We have more we want to do on the building and if you’re this talented and willing to work for free we would love to have you come and finish the project on the remaining walls of the building. Please feel free to stop by the office and let us know when you will be available. Things are much brighter and the clinic now that we have our new glass doors. We do have a roll down door outside to give us protection at night time and that makes us all feel good. It is nice to be able to see outside as to what’s going on but more importantly, we’ve had more people stopping in to ask us what we do here […] readmore

Martin Luther King Day of Service

Hello family and friends, We received our 2nd award for the Martin Luther King Day of Service. With that funding we held our second annual Health Fair, “A Healthier You”. With wonderful help from the Pinellas County Health Department, we were able to provide testing for HIV and Hepatitis C. Humana and Simply Clear provided information to choose health care benefits. Hepatitis Main provided information and support for those living with Hepatitis C. Walgreens Specialty Pharmacy provided free blood pressure readings. And of course, I was there offering free health consultations to any one in need. The weather could not have been more perfect. I want to thank L J Sosa and Rich Schanno for the many hours they spent helping us plan the event, and making it a success. The volunteers from the Hotchkiss Group were truly helpful and gave great energy to the day. Last year, we held the health fair on the day of the parade, and thought maybe trying in on the Saturday would be better attended. Although we had a very successful day, we decided that next year, if we indeed are awarded another award, we will do it on the day of the parade. The good news is that we are having 2 events […] readmore
