Support for Those Affected by Harvey

Hello Friends, It is so difficult to watch the news stories about all of those affected by Hurricane Harvey. After Katrina, I had the great opportunity to work in shelters in Montgomery Alabama and then drive to Mississippi and work in a small town for three days. So much focus was given to New Orleans that most of the small towns around were not getting any assistance. It appears that were now in the same position with most people focusing on Houston, which truly needs our prayers and donations. We need to also be praying for the people in the small town such as Beaumont and Port Arthur Texas. I encourage any of you who have anything to donate, to please consider donating to the cause. The Red Cross is a wonderful organization, and the money sent to them will be used to help survivors of this terrible catastrophe. ABC is doing a day of giving up as another opportunity for people to give. Thank you to all of those who already given, and look in your heart, remembering the Golden Rule, and think about how you would want to be treated if you are in the middle of this disaster. All of us have the opportunity to give, but more importantly […] readmore

Turning 62

Hello Friends, I turned 62 today, another milestone. I could go to the Social Security office and apply for benefits, I could go skydiving, I could go ride roller coasters, or I could go to the beach. The beach usually wins as it is a great place to spend time. It’s a great place for meditation. With all the chaos in our country, it is nice to have a space where one can meditate and refresh. We are so fortunate to be here in St. Petersburg Florida, with plentiful beaches, and beautiful landscapes. With the colorful sunsets that are offered every evening, one can get lost in thought and be creative. Take some time to go to the beach, clear your head, plan your future, or just sit and meditate. Take a day away from the media and let conversations flow with friends or family. Or better yet, make new friends. You will return refreshed, and ready to reach out to others. Remember, Be Happy, Help Others Dr. Bob readmore

Civility

Hello friends, Our Representative to Congress, Congressman Charlie Crist is doing a great thing. He is taking the message of the Golden Rule to Washington DC.  I had the chance to give him a wristband from LovetheGoldenRule.com earlier this year.  I had a chance to speak to him about the Golden Rule during the Equality Florida Gala last month. He has now made a replica of our wristband which I believe says Practice the Golden Rule. In a post from his Facebook page, there is a letter that states he’s asking for a day of civility to be held on July 12, 2017 in Washington DC. I am grateful for the chance to pass this message to him and am grateful that he has taken the time to pass the message to others. No one owns the concept of treating others the way you want to be treated yourself, but our wristbands have been circling the globe for 4 years now. I have had the opportunity to pass out wristbands in 11 states and 3 countries. It is very rewarding to see people grasp the concept of treating others the way you want to be treated yourself. I look forward to seeing how things turn out on July 12th.  “Thank You” […] readmore

Remembering the Pulse Massacre

Hello Friends, It will soon be the one year anniversary of the massacre at Pulse nightclub in Orlando Florida. It was June 12, 2016. It always bothers me that news agencies won’t state that over 100 people were shot in that one building alone in that horrible time that many had to survive by remaining quiet and playing dead for hours before police would storm the building. I do not believe it was an act of terrorism. Many believe that the man involved was struggling with his own sexual identity, as evidenced by him attending this nightclub on many occasions before the night he decided to take so many lives. Suppressing ones own sexual identity can lead to many different psychological consequences. This is one more reason that we need to be open and accepting of all of our brothers and sisters who were born with a sexual orientation or gender identification that doesn’t fit what some people consider normal. I attend a local church that in the past, has preached homosexuality as a sin. I met with the pastor and expressed my views of life and since I’ve been attending, I’ve not heard anything that makes me feel uncomfortable in attending his church. I would hope that all of us who […] readmore

A Great Weekend with Friends

Hello Friends I have known Patricia Fillmore for 30 years now. She is like a sister to me. She used to work at Edward White Hospital back in the 1990s. Pat became a good friend of our family.  My father was in the hospital frequently.  He  had Congestive Heart Failure and COPD. She would sit with us whenever she could, whenever my father was in the hospital. She became a very good friend to my Mother over the years. We had the opportunity to go to Fort Lauderdale this weekend and spend the whole weekend together. Pat just lost her husband 3 months ago and it was great to see her walking through the grief with such grace. She is able to tell me things I may not want to hear, and the things that I need to hear. She speaks honestly and lovingly and always knows just the right things to say to me when I am going through a difficult time. I am grateful for her support, and look forward to her as a friend of Love the Golden Rule Inc. for a long time. In reviewing what’s going on with our country, and our president, Donald Trump, it was nice to have the opportunity to share my opinion on […] readmore

Sharing Dreams

I had a great opportunity to share in the celebration of graduation yesterday. The young woman completed her Masters Degree at the University of South Florida. I’ve only known her for a few years but I have watched her blossom into this incredible woman. Her name is Karlana. What was most touching was when she shared the fact that she had reached a dream. The mission statement for Love the Golden Rule Inc. is very simple:” we are a group of people dedicated to advancing and enhancing the lives of anyone who ever had a dream”. Listening to her share her dream and the fact that she reached it and now can even have a bigger dream really touched my heart. She reminded me of why Love the Golden Rule is successful and continues to grow. Today I had the chance to meet two people who were truly struggling with reaching their bottom. One in a homeless shelter and the other sleeping on the couch of a friend. Both of these people shared a dream with me as well. A dream of living a life without the effect of drugs and alcohol and a life that would be manageable just by doing the next right thing every day. That is […] readmore

Love the Golden Rule Reboot

Dear friends, Thank you for your patience as we have worked through the redevelopment of our website. I want to give a special Thank You to Josh Cruz, a young man who is stepped up not only to help us with our website but is also stepped up to other social organizations in this community as a new young leader. I am very grateful to have his help in redeveloping our website and it is now in operation including the donate now button. Love the Golden Rule Inc. was founded four years ago. Our actual anniversary date will be May 3, 2017. I’m very excited to share that we have reached nearly all of the goals we set for ourselves when we started working on this wonderful project. “The clinic at 721”, has been growing on a daily basis. We are scheduling 3 to 4 new patients every day. The primary care practice is growing nicely and we had just received approval for all Florida Blue insurance products that many of you may have as your insurance. This also allows us to take on more HIV, and Hepatitis C patients who are looking for someone who is specialized in the care of these disease states. I recently obtained my certification […] readmore

Happy 2nd Anniversary

Good Evening Friends, Love the Golden Rule Inc. has now been in existence for three years, but most importantly the “Clinic at 721” has been open for two years. With the help of Gordon Licata and a wonderful team of people working at Love the Golden Rule Inc. we’ve cured over 200 patients with Hepatitis C. We just had seven new patients start their journey this week for their cure for Hepatitis C as well. It has been a wonderful experience to see the difference in the lives of people who get treatment, and who get cured. I look forward to going to work every day, hoping to meet new people, and am ready to help more people be free of this deadly virus. We will be starting a new round of new patients with the help of Bio – Collections, the research company that draws blood, and gives us the viral loads and genotypes at no cost. The next draw dates are November 30, December 1 and December 2. Anyone who has Hepatitis C can come in to have their blood drawn, so please, spread the word if you’re reading this and let everyone know about this so that as many people as possible, will have the opportunity to get these tests for free. Our lives all “matter”

Good Evening my friends, This is been an extremely emotional week for so many. My heart and my prayers go out to the families of all of the victims, including the ones they like to show on the news with four legs. It is hard to watch the news today. It seems that the more confrontation, the more graphic they can be, they feel their ratings increase. What does that say about our society today? My fear, is that were continuing to teach hate to the children of all races. I see separation of populations rather than joining together of populations. In my eyes we are all equal in the eyes of God. This is not a religious organization, but I have a strong spiritual sense about me. Seeing violent protests erupt across the country takes me back to my childhood in the 1950s. I lived in a town that had two black universities just outside our town. It was a small town, Xenia, Ohio. In the 1960s when riots were breaking out in the South. there were many who feared what might happen in our little town. What I’m most proud of, is that we were all taught to love one another and treat each other as you would […] readmore
