Presenting at Grand Rounds

I had the great opportunity to present Grand Rounds today at Bayfront Health Center. It is always pleasant to return to the Medical Center that taught you to be a Doctor. That feeling that you get just walking through the doors, and being reminded of the many experiences you had there brings a smile. Presenting data on HIV/AIDS for the Doctors to earn necessary credits for their license always gives me a good feeling. It has been something  I have had the chance to do for many years. While looking out into the audience, seeing the faces of those great men and women who taught me medicine, I had the chance to reflect on my career in HIV Medicine. Dr. Clinton Holder, an Infectious Disease Doctor was there. We shared patients over the years. There were others who taught me as well. The part I like most is when the lecture is over and the audience begins asking questions. I may not have all the answers, but today, I had the answers to all of the questions. Thank you for the opportunity to share the message that is so needed. HIV has not gone away, in fact it may be closer than you think. Talk to your family, especially the children, about HIV, how it […] readmore

Happy Holidays

“Faithful friends who are dear to us gather near to us once more”. It has been a wonderful Holiday ‘Season here at Love the Golden Rule Inc. We have our laboratory up and running with Sheila Bracey pulling the reigns. Luis has been the usual busy little elf, keeping everything in order. JoJo shopped around the clock and gathered some wonderful new things for us to use in the New Year. Willie continues to gather the stacks of charts, making sure all the I’s have been dotted and every T is crossed. Donna keeps plugging away at our database, helping to record the fact that we have treated over 700 people in our little clinic for Hepatitis C. The cure for Hepatitis C is easier than anything we have had in the past. With just 8 weeks of treatment, once daily dosing, and no side effects, people are lining up for the cure. Many of the wonderful people I had the chance to serve in the past have come back for HIV care. That part of my life is so special, and I look forward to seeing more of you in the coming months So, as you can see, we are here to stay and promise to stay focused on […] readmore

Talk about Politics

Good Morning Friends and Family It is always risky to get into a discussion about politics these days. So many people have such strong opinions that it creates that it creates strong tension within the room, the air is so heavy you could cut it with a knife.. Having been in Washington DC at the time Brett Kavanaugh’s vote was taken, I found myself needing to take a pause, and redirect my thoughts.. You can never forget a moment like that. The vote was 51 to 49. On the other hand, I went to a fundraiser last night for some people running for office in our Tampa Bay area. It is wonderful to have the chance to meet all these people who are interested in redirecting our path forward in this country. My most important message to all of you is, to vote. We were given this right and we need to take advantage of it, especially now. Just this morning just this morning I heard of new efforts to strip transgender’s of their rights here in the United States. It is a very frightening time for many of our friends. Please be vocal, be safe, but be vocal. It will be great to pass November 6, 2018 this year. […] readmore

What’s up Doc?

The Asian Health Foundation held a wonderful conference this last weekend. It was really stimulating for me to sit with other providers and learn more about hepatitis B and hepatitis C. Let’s not forget that hepatitis B is still among us and needs to be treated. Like HIV, hepatitis B inserts its genetic material into the nucleus of the cell and therefore becomes part of the human genome reproducing new viral particles whenever cells replicate. We never get rid of it. That’s the difference between hepatitis B and hepatitis C. Hepatitis C we actually cure it. The virus is gone forever. We measured over 600 patients in our little clinic here and we see five new hepatitis patients daily. Our Family Practice is growing at a wonderful rate. It is nice to see people coming back to the office, remembering that the old office was only three blocks away from our new location. Every day shows new excitement. Our laboratory is ready to open. We have our final visits from the health department next week. We look forward to being able to provide this service to patients making it easier to get their blood work done here at the time of your appointment. Our pharmacy is doing well. At this […] readmore

World Hepatitis Day

Hello friends, Yesterday, July 28, 2018 was World Hepatitis Day. There wasn’t much fanfare or celebration, in fact there wasn’t much information at all. Congressman Charlie Crist held a town hall meeting at the Palladium which was well attended. I had a chance to speak up and inform people about hepatitis C and the good work being done at Love the Golden Rule Inc. We had a recent blood draw and were able to help 40 people. We are rapidly approaching 600 people cured of hepatitis C at our little clinic here in St. Petersburg. I am so proud of our staff. We were blessed with two very large donations in the last week and we continue to appreciate every dollar that is donated to Love the Golden Rule Inc. Please remember us when you’re thinking of making a donation to a charity. We look forward to seeing more of you in the clinic, the family practice is growing very nicely. We were also recently granted a 340 B pharmacy which will make things more convenient for our patients as we continue to grow. Thank you all for your continued support and remember Be Happy, Help Others. Dr. Bob Facebook Twitter Google+ LinkedIn readmore

The Golden Rule

Good Evening Friends, The Golden Rule has been talked about for centuries. It goes all the way back to biblical times and you will find the story in the book of Matthew, chapter 7, the story of the good Samaritan. More recently we hear and expressed in songs like in  For Ever Young” by Rod Stewart. There are many other songs a reference to Golden rule. Local attorneys use it in their advertising, Christopher Ligori uses it, Congressman Charlie Crist took the wristbands I had been passing out and copied the same color pattern to say”Practice the Golden Rule Daily”. He has one on his wrist every day. He passed them out to all elected officials in the last year. It’s Just the other day I noticed Marriott Suites using the Golden Rule in their advertising. For myself, I have to practice it every day, because I’m not perfect. If I remember to treat people the way I want to be treated myself, my day always goes better. I hope you will find the same experience in your life. Practice the Golden Rule daily by treating other people the way you would have them treat you. Visiting Chicago

Good Evening Friends, Chicago is a great city. Though the visit was short it was great to see the skyline, especially on such a sunny day. The day was spent at an advisory board meeting for a pharmaceutical company. It was an honor to be invited to share my opinion on the newest treatment for hepatitis C. The most recent drug approved for the treatment of Hepatitis C is Mavyret. The treatment is an easy eight weeks, and the dosing is particularly easy with three pills once daily. So far all the patients we had treated had done very well. We’ve not seen any failures at this point. At Love the Golden Rule Inc., We’ve now seen over 2000 patients. We had treated over 500 patients, and our cure is similar to that seen in the clinical trials. We continue to see on average, two new patients a day with Hepatitis C. The chance to cure them is so rewarding, that I look forward to going to work every day. We are grateful for all of you who have been through treatment, and especially those of you who have referred your friends to be treated. If you have any questions please contact the office at 727 – 826 – 0700. I […] readmore
